20 Feb Walk for Dyslexia 2023
Saturday, May 20, 2023, 8:30 AM (virtual participation available)
Families and community members can gather in beautiful spring weather to make strides against dyslexia or participate with a virtual option. On Saturday, May 20, the public is invited to join in the Walk for Dyslexia to benefit the Madison Area Children’s Dyslexia Center, which offers free, individualized tutoring for Dane County children who struggle with reading, writing, and spelling. In-person registration will begin at 7:30 am at Brittingham Park (829 W. Washington Avenue, Madison, WI). The 5K walk/fun run will start at 8:30 am. Participants are welcome to run or walk the course. No timing is provided.
Dogs are welcome at Brittingham Park, according to the City of Madison. The City of Madison does require all dogs to be on a leash (leashes must be non-retractable and a maximum of 6 feet long). We ask that you respect your fellow event participants and watch your dog closely.
Virtual Option: Now you can skip the port-a-potties, skip the check-in line and participate in the ultimate 5k event from the comfort of your own neighborhood—or even your own home! And you can invite out-of-town or even out-of-state friends and family to join in the fun—without ever having even to see them. Participants can create their own course. Run a 5k around your neighborhood or at a local park. Or plot a walk from your bedroom to the kitchen and back again if you’d prefer. We encourage you to send a photo of your adventure to KKuenzie@cdcinc.org. We will be sharing photos on our Facebook page.
Find out more about the event and check out our participant resources on our walk website.
Why do you host this event? We host this event to raise awareness about dyslexia in our community. The more people understand dyslexia, the better we are as a community. This event also raises significant funds for the Center. We are a nonprofit community organization and rely on funding from the public to keep tutoring free to all.
Where does the money raised go? All money earned or donated to this event supports our 1:1 tutoring program and training of new tutors.
Who can participate? EVERY PERSON! We gather together and walk together on the day of the event, and all are welcome. The good news is that there are virtual options as well. Invite your family and friends to join virtually; they can walk any time before the event.
Are donations tax-deductible? Yes, the Children’s Dyslexia Center of the Madison Area is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization (04-3169620).
What can I expect on event day? A whole lot of fun and community! We are a group of individuals coming together to celebrate dyslexia and the students and families in our community. Joining us for the walk lets you take a nice easy stroll near downtown Madison.
